Exceptional Early Production Loewe Model 1893 Borchardt Semi-Automatic Pistol Rig with Four Matching Magazines, Matching Shoulder Stock, Leather Holster, Case and Accessories

This is a very fine example of a scarce Model 1893 Borchardt semi-automatic pistol that was manufactured by Ludwig Loewe & Company in Germany. It is complete with various accessories including all four matching magazines, the original matching wooden shoulder stock with leather holster, cheek piece and oiler, all contained in a fair condition Borchardt style leather bound case. The top of the lid has the small silver plaque attached that is marked "D.B. Fay", (ownership unidentified). The Borchardt pistol employed the unique toggling breech mechanism which was eventually adopted and refined by Georg Luger and was used throughout production of the Luger pistol from 1900 through 1942. The top of the chamber area is marked in three lines "WAFFENFABRIK/LOEWE/BERLIN." with the top of the toggle mechanism carrying the German patent markings of "D.R.P./No. 75837". The right side of the barrel extension is marked "SYSTEM BORCHARDT PATENT". The left side of the breechblock, toggle mechanism and barrel extension are all marked with the early German commercial "Crown" over "B" and "U" proofs, and the left rear section of the barrel is marked with the full German commercial proofs that consists of the "Crown" over "B," "U," and G" over "172,28". It is fitted with the original checkered walnut grips along with the original varnished border around the checkered panel in the center section of each grip. This example includes the original matching wooden shoulder stock, numbered "827" on the lower right side of the stock, as noted all four original, matching wood based magazines, one spare dummy magazine with the brass oiler on the bottom, an original black leather holster with attaching straps, the original matching cheek piece numbered "827" and the small tin of lubrication grease with its leather pouch. Its all stored in an original leatherette case.

ConditionExceptionally fine with 85% plus original blue finish overall with minor edge and high spot wear with some blue loss on the rounded rear area of the receiver and lower back strap/frame area. Both areas are also showing some very light corrosion. The grips are excellent with nice original distinct checkering on the sides showing only a couple very minor handling marks with some minor flaking of the varnish on the right side along the lower back edge. The smaller parts retain 80% of their original niter blued colors. The four magazine are all excellent and so is the shoulder stock and cheek piece. The holster is in good condition with only a portion of the flaked black leather face still remaining overall. The case is in fair condition with the black exterior covering showing much wear and missing areas with a large crack through the center covering of the lid. The silver latches and hinges show some rusting, and it is missing the leather handle. It’s a really nice looking complete and original Loewe Model 1893 Borchardt Semi-Automatic Pistol rig. These are truly desirable in that it is the beginning/direct predecessor of the famous Luger pistol and that it is antique!
