Description:

Starting in the 16th century, canes and walking sticks became extremely popular, first among royalty and nobility, and by the 19th and 20th centuries having worked their way down to the middle classes as a symbol of status. The straight handle of this cane has a subtle palm swell at the top with the remainder of the vertical portion ornately relief carved with a nature scene featuring two male African lions on rock ledges, a female, and a cub, as well as palm trees and other vegetation. The shaft is ebonized and has an iron ferrule at the tip.

Rating Definition:

Very good, the handle showing an attractive lightly aged look with a few scattered hairline cracks due to age. The ebonized shaft retains much of the black finish with some minor handling marks scattered throughout, a couple stabilized cracks near the bottom, and mostly grey patina on the ferrule.
