The No. 49 "Walnut Hill" rifles were manufactured between around 1896 to the 1930s. This rifle was built on a No. 44 1/2 action marked "49 0" on the front face with elaborate engraving consisting of panels of scroll patterns and border designs. It has a globe front sight, "22-L.R" on the left side near the breech, the two-line J. Stevens Arms Co. address on the right, matching serial numbers on the barrel and lower tang, an adjustable peep sight on the upper tang, adjustable double set triggers, checkered Schnabel forearm with lead weight added inside, a checkered pistol grip stock with nice figure, a high comb, round cheek rest, and Swiss style buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very good with crisp engraving, 95% plus of the refinished blue, smooth gray-brown patina on the balance, minor oxidation, and light wear. The reoiled wood is very good and has mostly smoothed checkering and thin cracks on the forearm and wrist, some spots of wear and residue in the checkering on the buttstock, very attractive figure, a few dings and scratches, and mild overall wear. Mechanically fine.
