Manufactured in 1903 and featuring a "barley corn" front sight that doubles as the lug for a socket bayonet, notch and ladder rear sight, two-line address and patent marking, "44 W.C.F." at the breech, correctly no "WP" proofs, "44 CAL" on the elevator, "Model. 1873." with fancy foliate designs on the upper tang, the serial number on the lower tang, long musket style forend, and carbine style buttstock, sling swivels on the butt and middle barrel band, and empty stock compartment.
Very good plus with 30% original blue finish, 40% original niter blue on the loading gate, most of the fiery original case colors on the hammer, dark gray and brown patina on the balance, some mild pitting, generally mild overall wear, and distinct markings. The wood is also fine and has mild ding and scratches, light edge wear, and smooth oiled finish. Mechanically fine.
