Description:

The Standard Arms Model G was the first gas operated rifle in the United States. The gun will also function in slide action when the gas port is closed. Certainly one of the most interesting American firearm designs to come out of the early 1900s. Production was limited. Around 7,000 were manufactured circa 1910. This example is made even rarer as it is a factory engraved deluxe model. The action is decorated with simple flourishes of floral scrollwork along with various line border patterns. The engraving extends to the trigger guard. The rifle is fitted with a Lyman beaded blade front sight and an elevation adjustable rear sight. The top of the barrel is stamped with the caliber designation and the two-line, two-block patent dates and address markings. The Japanned bronze alloy forearm and buttplate feature high relief wildlife and logo designs. The highly figured deluxe walnut straight grip stock features multi-point checkering on the wrist.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, retaining 85% original blue finish with extensive cycling wear and some light pitting on the barrel. The engraving is crisp. The forearm and buttplate retain strong traces of original finish in the protected areas; otherwise, the exposed metal has a very attractive appearance. The stock is fine with numerous scattered minor dings and scratches and a few blemishes in the overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. This factory engraved Standard Arms Deluxe Model G Rifle is truly a rare find from the development of the American sporting self loading rifle and will be difficult to improve upon.
