Description:

Offered here is a Model 7 variant of the Model 1855 revolver series as manufactured in 1867 with finely detail open scrollwork engraving and track line borders covering approximately half of the metal surfaces. The engraving closely follows patterns found on page 72 of "The Book of Colt Engraving" in the section covering Master Engraver Gustave Young. A banner is engraved around the main serial number on the butt. The butt serial number has the suffix "IE", which notes the special checkered grip and engraving by the factory. The top of the 3 1/2 inch barrel has the two-line New York address: "ADDRESS COL. COLT/NEW-YORK U.S.A." The cylinder is numbered to the gun, has the stagecoach holdup scene and has a screw that retains the cylinder pin. The barrel is also numbered to the gun. The period partitioned case contains an Eley Brothers cap tin, a Dixon & Sons oiler, a screwdriver, a double sided eagle powder flask, a cleaning rod, and a two cavity bullet model marked "COLT'S/PATENT." The exterior of the case has an inscription shield marked "F.A. St. John."

Rating Definition:

Fine. The frame and barrel retain 50% plus bright original high polish blue finish with a smooth gray patina on the balance and crisp engraving. The cylinder retains traces of original blue finish and most of the scene with some pitting. The grip is very fine with a few age lines and overall crisp checkering. Mechanically needs work as hammer does not hold at the half cock position. The relined case is fine with minor handling/storage marks and most of the lining remaining. The accessories are all very fine.
