Description:

Canes reached the pinnacle of their popularity, especially among the gentry and upper echelons of society, in the late-19th and early-20th centuries, becoming far more than just a mobility tool, but rather a statement piece to project one's social status and wealth. This attractive cane certainly checks those boxes, having been masterfully carved by a skilled artisan. The L-shaped antique ivory grip is relief carved with a serpent coiled around the body of the grip. On the right side an unknown boxed character/characters is marked that has similar appearances to Korean characters. There is a sterling silver band where the grip meets the shaft. The shaft is of bamboo and has been slightly tinted brownish-red and tipped with dark horn. It measures 36 3/4 inches overall.

Rating Definition:

Fine, the grip showing some attractive age darkening and a few age-related hairline cracks. The shaft shows an uneven mottled brownish red tint with some darker spots scattered throughout, and a few scattered hairline cracks.
