Description:

Manufactured in 1863-1864, this is an exceptional example of a S&W Model No. 2 "Old Army" revolver cased by J.W. Storrs Co. of New York City. Many of the No. 2s in this early range saw hard use during the Civil War, and finding high condition examples like this one is becoming extremely difficult. The barrel rib has the one-line address, and the cylinder has the patent date marking. The right grip panel is numbered to the gun, and matching assembly marks are on the grip frame, barrel, and cylinder. The J.W. Storrs Co. partitioned case contains a case key, cleaning rod and five "U" head-stamped .32 RF cartridges. The Model No. 2 Army began production just prior to the start of the Civil War and quickly became popular, especially among Union officers. Provenance: The Sheryl Cheely Collection

Rating Definition:

Excellent, retaining 97% bright original blue finish with a small spot of cleaned pitting on the cylinder, otherwise some minor handling marks. The grips are also excellent with minimal handling marks, slight chip at the toe (left panel) and nearly all original varnish remaining. Mechanically excellent. The case is fine with minor handling/storage marks and typical high spot wear on the lining. An exceptional Civil War era S&W Model No. 2 "Old Army" Revolver complete with a J.W. Storrs Co. case.
