Constructed primarily from dark maroon lacquered metal plates assembled with dark blue (primary) and white (trim/accent) cord, with blue/floral pattern backing material, and areas of "tatami" plate and chain protection at the elbows and upper arms and hexagonal plates around the neck area. A lower bracket for a sashimono banner is present on the back, with the swiveling upper bracket (and one of the hinge points) absent. traditional hanging guards for the shoulders and thighs. The helmet is constructed from 24 plates in the crown, 5 in the neck protector and a one plate visor, is fitted with a finely detailed three dimensional ornament of a dragonfly in flight, and paired with a menpo-pattern lower faceguard decorated with facial hair and a hanging neckguard. The set is assembled on a hardwood display stand. The consignor attributes the set to 1850-1970.

Good overall. The metal components show some cracking, flaking and loss of the lacquer, a few sections of cord are loose or absent, and the cloth segments show wear, tear, and staining appropriate to age.
