Description:

This late 1860s or early 1870s William Tranter patent revolver has a rounded blade front sight, top strap groove rear sight, "J. VENABLES & SON. ST. ALDATES, OXFORD." inscribed on the narrow top flat, scroll and border engraving cut through the finish, Tranter patent markings, Birmingham proofs, a checkered walnut grip, and an attractive figured wood case with J. Venables & Son trade label, oiler, screwdriver, cleaning rod, and key.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 70% original blue finish remaining, traces of original case colors on the cylinder, silver-gray on the trigger and hammer, gray and brown patina on the balance, crisp engraving, and mild overall wear. The grip is very fine and has crisp checkering and isolated mild wear mainly on the top right. Mechanically excellent. The case is very fine and has mild age and storage related wear mainly from contact with the revolver.
