Description:

Charles Sykes (English 1875-1950) The Spirit of Ecstasy bronze. Symbol of the Rolls-Royce Motor Car. This sculpture is one of the finest original sculptures designed by Sykes to be the mascot for the Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost. Sykes modeled the piece after the woman he loved who was also engaged in a secret love affair with her boss, a pioneer of the auto industry. His love and her boss were aboard the S.S. Persia that was torpedoed off the coast of Crete. She now lives in immortality! The sculpture shows the flowing robe on her and the streamlining as she is whisked briskly down the highway. The statue is signed on the bottom of the base Charles Sykes with a TS imprint (Tiffany Studio). This elegant bronze rests on a marble base atop a layered marble and bronze base. Measurements: 18x16x30 inches.
