Description:

Dated 1945 and with a No. 32 Mk, I scope and mount. "M47C/ENGLAND/1945/X33854/TR" on stock socket. The comb of the stock has a hardwood cheekpiece held on with two wood screws. Standard blade front sight and "N67" marked ladder rear sight with the peep correctly removed. The buttstock has correct British acceptance proofs under the grip area along with "S51" behind the pistol grip area indicating conversion by H&H. The top of the wrist is unnumbered. The underside of the forend is stamped with British acceptance proofs followed by serial number "33854". Includes a No. 32 Mk. I sniper scope marked "TEL. SIGHTING/No.32. MK.I./OS. 466A. KL/1941 REG.No6877/(broad arrow)" on the tube, and it has the standard post and cross-hair reticle pattern. Cast scope mount marked "AE 3677". The top and bottom half of the scope rings are marked "114" and "115". Includes a 1941 dated Woods Mfg. Co. tan canvas sling, green painted metal scope case containing a scope tool, and a green No. 15 Mk. I wooden sniper rifle transit crate. Provenance: The Steven Preston Military Collection

Rating Definition:

Fine, retains 80% wartime arsenal applied blackened oil finish on the receiver, bolt, stock socket, and trigger guard, and 60% original blue finish on the barrel and bands with some scattered patches of light to moderate pitting. Wood is fine with defined edges, some scattered scratches and chips, and crisp stampings. Mechanically excellent. Scope and mount are good with 40% black/blue painted finish overall with scattered light pitting and flaking, and clear optics. Wooden storage chest is also fine, retains 70% green painted finish with scattered light to mild chips and scratches, a mild crack on the lid, one of the leather handles torn, and an area of British arsenal yellow touch up paint on the front. The underside of the lid retains its original label.
