Desirable Single Digit Serial Number Smith & Wesson .44 Double Action First Model Revolver

This revolver was manufactured c. 1881 at the beginning of production of this model. 53,590 in .44 S&W Russian were manufactured between 1881 and 1898, but this model was listed in company catalogs and sold up until 1913. This model was being carried by outlaw John Wesley Hardin when he was killed in 1895. It has a pinned rounded blade front sight, the two-line address and patent marking ending in 1880 on top of the rib, notch rear sight, "5" on the frame under the cylinder, star under the ejector on the rear of the cylinder, star along with two "7" stamps and "1164" rework marks on the left side of the grip frame, and matching serial number "6" on the barrel, barrel latch, cylinder, and butt.

ConditionVery fine with nearly all of the factory refurbished nickel and dark blue finish remaining, some original case colors on the hammer and trigger, frosted appearance of most of the nickel, some signs of light pitting under the finish, and generally only light overall wear. The grips are very good and have light handling wear. Mechanically fine.
