These "high capacity" pinfire revolvers were manufactured in the mid to late 19th century. Chaineux revolvers with as many as 20 shots are known. This 12-shot example has attractive floral scroll engraving and is marked "CHAINEUX/BTE" on the left of the barrel at the breech and "LEFAUCHEUX/INVRE BREVETE" on the right. The rear face of the cylinder is Liege proofed. The pin front sight is elevated on a triangular base and the hammer has a notch for a rear sight. The ebonized grips are checkered, and a lanyard ring is fitted at the bottom of the butt.
Fine, showing mostly a bright grey patina, having the appearance of being the original finish, with some scattered speckling of brown, a few scattered patches of very light pitting, and crisp engraving. The grips are very fine with a few scattered minor dings and a few scattered mild flat spots in the otherwise crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
