Extremely Rare and Outstanding Factory Engraved and Gold Inlaid Parker Brothers 16 Gauge A1-Special Double Barrel Ejector Shotgun

According to the chart on page 377 of "The Parker Story" by Gunther, Mullins, Parker, Price, and Cote, there were only 2 A1-Specials built with 30 inch barrels in 16 gauge making this possibly the rarest Parker shotgun to have ever been built. This gun truly is one of the finest examples of early 20th century American gunmaking that this writer has ever seen. Manufactured in 1927 on a size "1" frame. The gun has blued Peerless Steel dovetail lump barrels with single white bead sight on the added matted raised vent rib which has been finely remarked by hand "PARKER BROS. MAKERS, MERIDEN. CT. U.S.A. PEERLESS STEEL." The barrels have 2 3/4 inch chambers with automatic ejectors, standard Parker Brothers markings on the flats, and 2 1/4 inch wedges of beautifully cut floral scroll engraving at either breech as well as a flourish of floral scroll on the doll's head rib extension. The casehardened boxlock action displays magnificently carved fences with the lowest scallop cutting down along the side of the action and ending in a scroll on either side, jewelled watertable, and extensive fine intricate floral scrollwork surrounding "PARKER BROS." banners on either side and floral bouquets. A single floral bouquet on the underside of the action has been expertly gold inlaid drawing the eye and acts as an eye catching focal point on the gun. The engraving extends to the trigger guard, screw heads, both tangs with the bottom showing a gold inlaid serial number, and top-lever which is wonderfully carved showcasing a very nice three-dimension look. The engraving on this gun would be nearly impossible to improve upon given its intricacy and tasteful use of light gold inlay. The gun features a single selective gold trigger and an automatic tang mounted safety switch with gold inlaid "S". Beautiful, highly figured fancy checkered walnut splinter forearm with Deeley latch release and matching engraved fittings. The pistol grip stock is of equally exceptional figure with fancy checkered fleur-de-lis carved flats, blank inscription plate showing light scroll engraving in the gold-line grip cap, and engraved steel skeleton buttplate over a checkered bare butt. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameters nine inches from the breech measure .681/.680 inches; choke constriction .008/.037 inches; minimum wall thickness .010/.012 inches; 1 15/16 inch drop at comb; 3 1/16 inch drop at heel; 14 1/16 inch length of pull; weight 6 lbs 12 oz.

Rating definitionVery fine as professionally refinished during the period of use, likely by the factory exhibiting 95% plus blue finish with some wear at the muzzle and thinning at either breech, 40% case colors with some areas of fading, and minor handling evidence. The wood is also very fine, showing only a few small marks, strong varnish, and sharp checkering. Mechanically excellent. Do not miss out on this chance to add one of the rarest Parker Brothers shotguns ever built to your collection!
