Description:

This Podolsk Arsenal manufactured SVT-40 rifle has no import or Finnish Army marks and has not been through an arsenal overhaul, indicating it is likely a World War II bring back. The top of the receiver is stamped with the rare Podolsk "arrow inside an oval" factory proof mark over "1941" for the year of manufacture. Interestingly, the Podolsk factory was originally built by the American sewing machine company Singer in 1901 as the sole sewing machine factory in the Russian Empire, and its building was later turned into a state owned factory for the manufacture of a variety of items. Of the over 1,600,000 SVT-40 rifles manufactured in total between the different Soviet state owned factories, it is believed that Podolsk only manufactured approximately 100,000. The original Cyrillic prefix serial number (transliterated as "GI1812") is marked on the left of the receiver with matching serial number on the charging handle, trigger guard, and left side of stock with the Podolsk logo and date as well. The magazine is non-matching. Assorted Soviet inspection marks on the various components. First type six slot muzzle brake, hooded post front sight, and tangent rear sight. Standard hardwood pistol grip stock with ventilated handguard, ventilated blue steel heat shield, and smooth blue steel buttplate. Includes green canvas web sling with leather ends (one of the leather ends is torn).

Rating Definition:

Fine, retaining 60% original blue finish with some scattered areas of light pitting. The bolt retains its original bright surface with some scattered light freckling. Stock is very good with some scattered scratches and dents, a crack on the right of the handguard, a crack behind the receiver, and clear markings. Mechanically excellent. This is a desirable example of a scarce, original finish, Podolsk Arsenal SVT-40 rifle manufactured in the same Soviet factory that previously made Singer sewing machines!
