Manufactured reportedly for a special French contract, this Mauser Model 1896 pistol is in the unique combination "Bolo" configuration, 4 inch barrel and large grip frame (refer to p. 132 of "System Mauser" by Breathed and Schroeder). It is fitted with blade front and tangent rear sights, graduated from 50-500. The three-line Mauser marking is on the top of the chamber with "crown/crown/U" proof on the left and right side of the frame marked "WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER/OBERNDORF A. NECKAR". Visible numbers are matching with the last digit of the chamber serial number having been stamped over a "4" (likely a factory error), small ring hammer with the rear of hammer marked "NS" for new safety, and short extractor. The grips are checkered hard rubber with Mauser monograms. Includes a correct pattern shoulder stock/holster with matching attaching iron numbered "135".
Excellent, retains 90% plus of the original blue finish with the balance having thinned to a smooth grey patina, primarily at the muzzle and on the grip straps. The grips are also excellent showing an attractive chocolate tone with minimal handling evidence and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. The stock is very fine with a few scattered minor dings and 30% of the original blue finish on the attaching iron with the balance a smooth grey patina. An excellent Broomhandle pistol with a desirable matching numbered shoulder stock!
