The Model 1886 is one of the finest Winchester models and was the first repeater based on designs by John M. Browning. It was developed as a replacement for the weaker toggle link action Model 1876 which could not handle as powerful of cartridges or feed the popular .45-70 Govt. cartridges, but their production was fairly limited at around 160,000 between 1886 and 1935. This rifle was manufactured in 1898 with a nickel-silver blade front sight, adjustable sporting rear sight, folding tang peep sight, standard markings, and smooth forearm and rifle stock with crescent buttplate.

Fine with 50% plus faded original blue finish on the barrel and magazine tube, mostly mottled gray patina on the action and furniture, some minor oxidation/pitting, and general mild overall wear. The reoiled wood is very good and has mild dents and scratches, a filled chip at the upper right corner of the wrist, thin crack at the rear of the upper tang, 11 "kill notches" by the toe, and a cut by the heel on the right.
