The Stevens Model 51 was manufactured c. 1896-1916 and is essentially a deluxe version of the "Walnut Hill" No. 50. The rifle is fitted with a globe front sight and a mid-range Vernier tang peep sight. There is an empty dovetail for a rear sight on the barrel and two scope bases. The barrel has the two-line Stevens-Pope Chicopee Falls marking on the upper left flat, and the bottom has "1722". The factory style deep relief scroll engraved receiver is fitted with double set triggers and a ball and spur lever. The two screw forearm and straight grip stock are checkered. The buttstock has a left handed cheekpiece and heavy Swiss buttplate. Includes a military style metal ammunition can containing some .32-40 casings, bullets, and loading tools. Provenance: The Gerard F. "Jerry" de Vaudreuil Collection

Rating Definition:

Fine, retains 95% plus of the blue finish on the upgraded, refinished/remarked barrel and mostly silvered out case colors remaining on the receiver, lever and scope bases. The buttplate retains 98% of the silver finish that has an attractively aged patina. The refinished/recheckered wood is very fine with a few scattered light handling marks and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
