Description:

This is a nearly as issued Ames Model 1850 Staff & Field Officer sword from the Civil War. It has clearly been well-cared for 160 years. These were the staff and field officers swords from 1850 to 1872 and was the most popular among generals during the Civil War. It has a lightly curved, 32 1/4 inch curved blade with narrow and broad fullers, lightly rounded flat spine, 18 inch panels of scroll and patriotic etching with frosted backgrounds, "Ames Mfg. Co./Chicopee/Mass" etched on the right, "1862" marked on left ricasso, and "A.D.K." on the right ricasso; a gilt brass hilt with pierced floral patterns and "US," a wire and dark shagreen wrapped grip, blued steel scabbard with gilt brass fittings and "AMES MFG CO/CHICOPEE/MASS" maker's mark.

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall with only minor age, handling, and storage wear, including some minor grip separation and faint spotting.
