Description:

Jean Paul Cleft was active in Grenoble, France, c. 1650-1700 and made multiple swivel breech firearms designs. This pistol has four barrels fired using a shared lock that is signed "Jean Paul/Cleft" and has floral an scroll engraving. An thin iron rod with spring is fitted between the barrels. The furniture is brass and also has floral and scroll engraving. The escutcheon has a coronet and coat of arms. The stock has some raised relief carving at the tang.

Rating Definition:

Very good with mostly gray patina on the barrels and lock, some minor oxidation and pitting, aged patina on the brass furniture, distinct engraving, loose barrel fit, and moderate overall wear. The stock has some dents and scratches, crisp carving, and minor cracks. Mechanically functions fine, although the barrels are very loosely fitted.
