Carl Philipp Crause (1778-1857) of Herzberg am Harz is identified as the director of the Herzberg Arms Factory starting in 1808 and purchased it in 1816. His sons continued the business after his death in 1857. This fine percussion pistol has rifled barrels, a nickel silver blade front sight accented by a gold inlaid arrow, "C. CRAUSE IN HERZBERG AM HARZ" in gold inlay, and gold and silver inlaid accents; gold and silver floral scrollwork on the barrels, gold bands at the muzzles and breech, "2" on the underside of each barrel and breech plug, a screw adjustable notch rear sight on the standing breech, long upper tang with a closing slot for mounting a shoulder stock, "C. CRAUSE" behind the right hammer, "IN HERZBERG." by the left hammer, rotating hammer stalls, extensive scroll engraving and wavy line gold inlaid borders throughout, spurred trigger guard, "2" and "2253" on the pommel cap, and half-length stock with checkered wrist and flared pommel.

Fine with bright gold, aged patina on the silver, crisp engraving, light Damascus patterns, traces of original brown and case colors, mostly smooth gray and brown patina on the balance, some minor oxidation, and minor overall wear. The stock is very fine with most of the original varnish and has distinct checkering, light scratches and dings, and minor edge wear. Mechanically excellent.
