Description:

This is an exceptionally fine example of a masterwork from one of the most exclusive firearms firms on the planet, so exclusive in fact, that one must be invited to order a gun from the firm. This gun is amongst the finest works this writer has ever seen and displays a mastery of firearms high art that very few in this world posses. The wonderful theme evokes the love we feel for our four legged hunting partners and perfectly encapsulates the beauty and elegance of what they do for us as hunters. This fantastic gun is built with blued steel barrels with a single brass bead sight on the matted solid rib which is marked with a gold inlaid "1" at the breech, "CONNECTICUT SHOTGUN M.F.G. CO./N.B. CT U.S.A." and "A. GALAZAN" marked on the right and left side of the upper barrel respectively, beautiful floral vine inlays in yellow and white gold at the breech, and 2 3/4 inch chambers with automatic ejectors. The gold washed finish pinless sidelock action displays a fantastic array of design elements, including multi-colored gold inlays, highly detailed, photo realistic engraving, and colorful enamel work. The engraving continues seamlessly onto the forend shoe which shares the same gold washed background as well as the triggerguard and both tangs. The engraving consists of a staggering 22 hunting dogs cut both flush and in semi-relief, on display are pointers, retrievers, spaniels, and setters, all surrounded by grape vines with bundles of grapes and leaves showing their fall colorations. The engraving shows such an attention to detail and unbelievable use of color contrast between the gold background and the multi-colored dogs as well as the magnificent pops of color created by the grape leaves. This incredible work of art is signed "G. Steduto Creative Art" on the triggerplate to the right of the trigger for Italian Master Engraver Giovanni Steduto. The gun features a single trigger, a rolled triggerguard, and a manual tang mounted safety switch. The outstanding exhibition quality walnut shows gold bordered multi-point checkering on the forend along with the aforementioned engraving on the shoe as well as a gold inlaid "GALAZAN" with more engraving and a green enamel grape bundle on the Anson button release. The stock is of the same exceptional quality with the same gold bordered checkering, teardrop flats, incredibly fine multi-colored gold inlaid grape vines and leaves radiating from the blank gold inscription oval, and a checkered bare butt with a gold border. The gun includes a second barrel set which measures 26 inches and is chambered for 3 inch .410 bore shells and features automatic ejectors and choke constrictions of .003/.002 inches. The extra barrel has matching engraving at the breech and a second equally beautiful forend with matching shoe engraving, showing off Steduto ability to not just create this work once, but to perfectly match it to another piece that can be used interchangeably. Barrel and stock measurements (U/O): bore diameter nine inches from the breech both measured at .549 inches; choke constriction .003/.006 inches; minimum wall thickness .025/.030 inches; 1 1/2 inch drop at comb; 2 1/8 inch drop at heel; 14 3/8 inch length of pull; weight 6 lbs. 1 oz. Provenance: The Robert M. Lee Collection

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall, retaining 99% original blue, gold, and enamel finishes with slight oxidation beneath the "1" forend and otherwise limited handling evidence and sharp checkering on the stock and forend. The extra barrel set is also excellent. Mechanically excellent. This is an opportunity to own an incredibly fine piece of art and pay tribute to our favorite hunting partners!
