Description:

This Belgian-made wildfowling shotgun was sold by the Brussels firm of H. Mahillon. The Mahillon gunmaking family are first recorded in 1836 with the business amalgamating with the House of the Hunter company in 1968. The Liege proof marks struck on the barrel include a cursive “h” indicating a date of manufacture of 1929. With round barrel signed “ANCIENNE MON. H. MAHILLON BRUXELLES FAB.T D’ARMES DE S.M. LE ROI” and with bead front sight and standing notch rear sight. Giant casehardened rolling-block action finely engraved with large panels scenes of ducks, the underside of action signed “MON. H. MAHILLON BRUXELLES” and “GRAVEUR L. SMEETS”. Well figured 14 ¼ inch stock with orange rubber recoil pad, checkered grip and long checkered forearm, and with a sling mount fitted beneath the butt, the corresponding sling mount fitted to a barrel-band. Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel retains 95% older reblued finish beginning to turn to a plum color, some rubbing to finish at the muzzle and barrel band. Action retaining 95% original casehardened finish with some age related oil staining, engraving crisp and clear. Stock cleaned and reoiled, crisp checkering, some storage and handling blemishes and marks throughout. Mechanically excellent.
