The visible portion of the print measures 9 1/2 x 22 3/4 inches and features a herd of cattle being watched over by some cowboys on horseback, with one cowboy in the center foreground on a horse that is clearly marked with the "Spear" broad arrow like symbol on its flank. The print has been colorized with water colors. It is marked with the L.A. Huffman copyright in the lower right corner, "The Spear (arrow head) Cut On Big Wolf Montana" in the lower left, and "For WC Shuey with all kind wishes of" in the lower center, all in white ink. The frame has an antique gilt finish and measures approximately 16 3/4 x 29 inches. Laton Alton Huffman (1854-1931) was among the few photographers to photograph the reality ranching life in Montana in the late 19th century and enlarged many of his earlier photographs later in his life.
Very fine, the print having a distinct image with vibrant color and very minimal fading or wear. The white ink markings are very crisp. The matting above the print has a slight wave. The frame is good with some moderate handling/storage wear throughout, and the backing is slightly loose.
