Manufactured in 1906-1922 with a special order half octagon barrel, "semi-deluxe" checkering, and a 2/3 length magazine. The top barrel flat is marked with the two-line address and patent dates. The upper tang is marked "Marlin./MODEL '97." and the serial number is on the bottom of the receiver. It is fitted with beaded blade front and elevation adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sights, and the desirable casehardened takedown receiver. It is mounted with a diamond pattern checkered forearm and checkered pistol grip stock with a hard rubber buttplate.
Exceptionally fine, retains 85% of the original blue finish with a patch of light pitting that has been cleaned to a grey patina on the left of the magazine and 80% plus of the vibrant original case colors with the balance mostly a smooth grey patina with some scattered brown speckling on the right of the receiver. The wood is very fine with some scattered light handling marks and well-defined checkering. Mechanically excellent.
