Description:

This is both an attractive and exceptional original example of one of approximately 9,000 Richards conversion Model 1860 Army revolvers manufactured between 1871-1878 based on designs by Charles B. Richards, who was also one of the designers of the Colt Single Action Army. These revolvers were manufactured alongside the Single Action Army and are believed to have seen significant use in the Old West. The revolver has a blue finished barrel, cylinder, and backstrap, casehardened frame and hammer, silver finished trigger guard, and is fitted with a one-piece walnut grip. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped "-ADDRESS COL. SAMl COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA-" in one line. "COLTS/PATENT" marked on the left of the frame. The cylinder is roll-engraved with the Texas Navy battle scene and "COLTS PATENT No 591". Matching full serial number "3591" marked on the bottom of the barrel lug, frame, trigger guard and butt. Assembly number "1992" marked on the loading gate and arbor pin. "44 CAL" marked on the left of the trigger guard bow.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, retains 70% plus original bright high polish blue finish on the barrel, 40% plus original bright high polish blue finish on the cylinder, and 20% original bright high polish blue finish on the back strap with areas flaking to a smooth gray and brown patina on the balance. 80% plus vivid original case colors remain on the frame and hammer. Traces of original silver visible on the brass trigger guard displaying a bright golden patina. Crisp markings and cylinder scene. The grip is also very fine with most of the original varnish, some crazing and light wear concentrated at the bottom edges, and a few light dents and handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
