Exceptional Colt Civilian Model 1860 Army Percussion Revolver with Case

Manufactured in 1865, this is an outstanding example of a civilian version of Colt's famed Model 1860 Army percussion revolver. The '60 Army was the main sidearm issued to the Union Army, especially the Union Cavalry, and saw hard use in the Civil War and in the Indian Wars in the 1870s. Because of their prolonged use, only a limited number of Model 1860 Army revolvers, especially civilian examples, remain in high condition, and this revolver is truly in exceptional condition. The top of the barrel has the one-line "New-York U.S. America" address marking. The left side of the frame is stamped "COLTS/PATENT." The left side of the trigger guard is stamped "44 CAL." The rebated cylinder has the roll-engraved naval battle scene and "COLTS PATENT No 3512." Matching full or partial serial numbers are found on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, back strap, cylinder, arbor pin and wedge. The brass trigger guard is plated in silver, the hammer, loading lever and frame are casehardened, and the barrel and cylinder are blue. With a partitioned case containing lead balls and conical bullets, double face powder flask with military/patriotic motif, "COLTS/PATENT" marked bullet mould, Eley Brothers cap tin, and two packages of combustible envelope cartridges (one package has tape repairs, the other package remains sealed).

ConditionExceptionally fine, retaining 70% bright original high polish blue finish with the balance a smooth gray patina. The frame, hammer, loading lever retain 85% vivid original case colors. Strong traces of original silver plating remain on the trigger guard. Nearly all of the cylinder scene remains. The grip is excellent with high edge wear and some minor handling marks and most of the original varnish remaining. Mechanically excellent. The case is very fine showing a few hairline stress cracks, minor handling/storage marks, and some typical high spot wear on the lining. A very fine civilian Model 1860 Army revolver that will look great in any Colt percussion sidearm collection.
