Manufactured beginning in 1870, approximately 48,000 of these Colt Third Model, or "Thuer", derringers were produced by 1912. This example has the standard "-COLT-" in italics on top of the barrel and caliber marking on the left of the frame in addition to a circled Rampant Colt trademark that the writer has never seen on a Third Model derringer before. This marking may have been applied by the retailer for marketing purposes. The serial number is marked on the left side of the grip frame. It is fitted with a blade front sight and a pair of smooth hardwood grips. Includes an oak presentation case with Colt London Agency label attached inside the lid as well as seven .41 RF cartridges in the block, cleaning rod, and a key for the case.
