Description:

This long matchlock musket is known as a toradar. These matchlocks remained in use in Indian and surrounding areas deep into the 19th century. The long, multi-stage, smoothbore barrel has a post sight on the muzzle, raised ridges that aid in securing the barrel to stock using wrapped cord, and a U-notch rear sight on the flared breech end. The flashpan is attached to the barrel and has a pivoting cover. The metal plates on the breech section have some simple engraving. The stock is painted a red-orange color and has silver plates with ornate scroll and dot patterns at the forend and around the trigger, some bone/antique inlays behind the breech, and curved wrist and butt with separate wood butt. "R.L. Hurston/Ore." is hand marked on the left sideplate. Provenance: The Tom Lewis Collection

Rating Definition:

Very good with some traces of gold finish in protected areas of the barrel, dark brown and gray patina and mild overall wear including pitting. The stock is good with most of the painted finish remaining, mild dings and scratches, mild edge wear, and some old repairs. Mechanically needs work.
