Originally manufactured in 1895, this revolver was later arsenal upgraded to Model 1901 configuration, as was common with these New Army & Navy revolvers. The barrel is marked "COLT D.A. 38" on the left side, and has the two-line Colt address/1884 to 1895 patent dates on the top, "R" and "R.A.C." on the underside. The "R.A.C." inspector mark is repeated on the back of the cylinder and on the left side of the frame. The butt is marked "U.S./ARMY/MODEL/1901" and "No/66/611" around the lanyard ring. The assembly number "6611" is stamped on the crane, the inside of the frame and on the cylinder latch. Includes a U.S. leather holster with Rock Island Arsenal markings on the flap along with "7", "25", "HP", and "H.E.K." Provenance: The Mel Raucher Collection
Very fine, retains 85% plus of the original high polish blue finish and 90% plus of the nitre blue with the balance having mostly thinned to a smooth grey patina, most noticeably at the muzzle, on edges, and the grip straps. The grips are also very fine with a few scattered minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent. The holster is fine with some mild wear.
