Description:

This is a scarce example of a Colt Model 1895 revolver manufactured in 1898 under contract for the U.S. Navy. It has the standard 6 inch barrel with the top roll-stamped with the two-line Colt Hartford address and 1884, 1888 and 1895 patent dates and the left side of the barrel is roll-stamped with the caliber designation "COLT. D.A. 38". The frame, crane, and cylinder latch all have the matching assembly number of "194". The butt is roll-stamped: "U.S.N./anchor/.38 DA/trident/No/9345/W.B.W./95082". The left side of the trigger guard bow, crane, cylinder latch, and rear face of the cylinder are all stamped with the navy trident. It is fitted with a pair of checkered hard rubber grips with "COLT" in ovals at the top and each hand marked with the matching assembly number "194" inside. Includes a 1909 dated Rock Island Arsenal "US" leather holster. Provenance: The Mel Raucher Collection

Rating Definition:

Very fine, retains 80% plus of the original blue finish and 90% plus of the original nitre blue with the balance having thinned to mostly a smooth grey patina, most noticeably on the grip straps, muzzle, and edges. The grips are excellent with a few scattered light handling marks and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. The modified holster is good with a hole drilled in the back of the belt loop, some mild wear, and a replacement piece in the muzzle end.
