Introduced late in World War II, the "Kriegsmodell" (War Model) 98k was designed for easier and faster production, increasing the number of stamped components while eliminating some features. This particular K98k was produced in the "t" suffix range, placing it very late in the war at a time when getting rifles in the hands of soldiers was the main priority at the expense of fit and finish, as a last ditch effort. Fitted with a hooded blade front and tangent rear sight on the "EO" stamped barrel, with "Mod.98/bnz45" on the receiver ring, and "WaA623" proofs on both the barrel and receiver ring. Matching full and partial serial number markings visible on the barrel, bolt, bolt safety sleeve, rear sight and rear sight base. Fitted with a stamped "SVW" trigger guard and "byf" floor plate, and a pair of screw-secured stamped and welded barrel bands. Crude cast bolt safety sleeve. Fitted in a smooth laminated pistol grip stock and hand guard, with an "eagle/swastika/H" Heer stamp (partially defaced) on the right of the buttstock and a cupped steel buttplate.
Excellent, retains 95% original phosphate finish, and 80% original blue finish on the bolt. Stock is fine with a few chips along the right edge, an absent 1/2 inch wide sliver on the right of the buttstock, and otherwise defined edges. Mechanically excellent.
