Manufactured in 1972-1973. Fitted with red ramp front and white outline rear sights. The revolver features gold bands on the barrel at the muzzle and near the frame with "44 MAGNUM" inlaid in gold and a spray of floral scroll coming from either end as well as on the sides of the ejector housing. The frame features near full coverage floral scroll engraving on the frame with a gold inlaid border on both sides, a gold inlaid eagle on the right, and the initials "WEL" on the trigger guard. The cylinder is engraved to match with a gold band at the rear and one at the front outlining the flutes with a fleur-de-lis on each chamber. The bottom of the frame is signed "S. PIKE 82" which has been attributed to the engraver Sonny Pike who was a professor of art at the University of Mississippi. The grips have been carved on each panel with an eagle soaring down with its talons outstretched. The revolver is fitted in a case along with cleaning tools and a Smith & Wesson challenge coin.
Excellent as embellished by Sonny Pike, retaining 98% plus professionally refinished blue finish with limited handling marks, a small spot on the right side of the ejector housing, and crisp checkering. The grips are very fine with slightly softened carving and hairline age cracks. Mechanically excellent. Case is very fine with storage and handling marks as well as high edge wear on the lining.
