Manufactured about 2010 by Sport-System Dittrich of Germany and imported by PTR-91 Incorporated of Connecticut, this is a very scarce and desirable semi-automatic commercial copy of the WWII German MP43/44 Sturmgewehr assault rifle. Appropriate adjustments have been made for closed bolt, semi-auto only operation, otherwise the design hews as close as reasonably possible to the vintage Sturmgewehr. Quantities are limited, with only about 200 believed to have been imported to the USA due to the limitations on production and importation. Blade front and tangent rear sights, with the serial number and "PTR44" on the left side of the stamped sheet metal frame, and "MADE IN GERMANY BY SSD for PTR91 Inc. Farmington, CT USA" on the right side of the frame, which is fitted with a spot-welded scope rail in emulation of some known wartime StGs which were equipped with ZF4 sniper scopes. Fitted with a pair of ribbed pistol grips and a hardwood buttstock with ribbed naked butt and steel reinforced toe and heel. Includes an All Weather Tactical hard case as well as four extra magazines. The MP43/44 showed the world how effective intermediate cartridges could be at true combat ranges, a concept that would be seen throughout the cold war and into modern conflicts across the globe. These semi-automatic versions are a civilian version of the genesis of the modern assault rifle.
Excellent overall, retaining 99% plus original blue finish with limited handling marks and a safety drag line and a small chip on the left side of the buttstock at the receiver. Mechanically excellent. Case is very fine with limited storage and handling marks. A scarce opportunity to own a limited production and collectible version of a World War II German MP43/44 Sturmgewehr assault rifle manufactured in semi-automatic. The inspiration behind all of today's combat rifles.
