Documented ATF Exempted Winchester Model 1892 Lever Action Saddle Ring Trapper's Carbine with 14 Inch Barrel

Manufactured in 1907, this is a rare Trapper's Carbine with a desirable 14 inch barrel. Carbines such as this one would have still been highly valued in the American west, much of which was still quite untamed, for their mobility and firepower. This particular carbine shows all the typical signs of a working gun, and is easy to imagine having spent many years in the hands of cowboy or lawman. The included 2003 dated Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms exemption letter is addressed to George Madis and lists this carbine as being removed from the purview of the National Firearms Act and classified as a curio and relic. The barrel has the faint caliber marking at the breech and is fitted with a pinned brass blade front sight and folding ladder rear sight. The left side of the receiver is fitted with a saddle ring. The upper tang is marked with the three-line model and trademark information, and the serial number is faintly marked on the bottom of the receiver. It is mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a carbine buttplate. A second saddle ring has been added to the bottom of the buttstock, just behind the lever, during the period of use.

ConditionFair, the metal showing primarily the dark brown patina of a frontier working gun with some light pitting scattered throughout, attesting to the many hard miles it traveled. The wood is also good with a few minor cracks in the forearm and some minor dings and scratches scattered throughout due to use. The hammer does not remain cocked with operation of the lever, but will remain so when operated manually, otherwise mechanically fine. A desirable Winchester Model 1892 Trapper's carbine that is full of frontier character!
