The Merwin, Hulbert & Co. "Larger Frame" revolvers were manufactured 1876-1880s by Hopkins & Allen. This example has the distinctive factory floral engraving and includes a stag on the left side of the frame. The barrel has the standard markings, and the frame has the "CALIBRE 44 M.H. & Co" marking. Matching "8211" assembly numbers are on the barrel, cylinder, and frame, and the butt has the serial number and lanyard ring. The right grip is carved with an eagle, rattlesnake, and cactus design based on the Coat of Arms of Mexico.
Exceptionally fine with 95% plus untouched original nickel plating on the barrel and frame, 60% plus original nickel on the cylinder, crisp engraving, strong original case colors, smooth gray and brown patina on the balance, and generally minor overall wear. The slightly undersized grips are also very fine and have attractive natural tones and grain, minor age cracks, and distinct carving. Mechanically fine.
