Description:

The accompanying factory letter (copy) lists this rifle with a rare 30 inch octagon barrel in .44 caliber, plain trigger, checkered pistol grip stock, and casehardened receiver. The letter also states the rifle was received in the warehouse on February 25, 1889 and shipped the same day. Per James D. Gordon's survey only 4.8 percent of the Model 1873s surveyed had original 30 inch barrels (see Gordon's "Winchesters New Model of 1873: A Tribute," Vol II, page 678). The rifle was later restored by Turnbull Restoration Co. to manufacturer specifications including a new barrel, stock and forearm. The rifle is fitted with a German silver blade front sight, a sporting rear sight, and No. 36 tang peep sight graduated from 0-50. The top barrel flat is stamped with the two-line Winchester legend ahead of the rear sight and "44 CAL" at the breech. The cartridge elevator is unmarked. The buttstock is fitted with a trapdoor crescent buttplate, and the butt compartment contains a four piece cleaning rod (one section is absent). The forearm and pistol grip stock are select grade walnut featuring checkering, high figure grain pattern, and an ebony insert in the pistol grip. Provenance: The Wayne Connor Collection

Rating Definition:

Very fine as professionally restored overall, retaining 99% plus of the blue and casehardened finishes with very limited handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
