The included factory letter lists the rifle with an octagon barrel in .45-90 caliber and plain trigger when received in the warehouse on April 23, 1888 and shipped on August 11 with 24 other Model 1886s, order number 10853. This rifle was later professionally restored. Dovetail blade and folding ladder sights on a barrel marked with the two-line address ahead of the rear sight and ""45-90 WCF" at the beech. The upper tang is marked "-Model 1886-." The lower tang has the patent dates marking and the serial number. Sling eyes are mounted on the underside of the barrel and stock. The straight grip stock is fitted with a crescent buttplate. The John Moses Browning designed Winchester Model 1886 is one of the most popular Winchester lever actions. Browning's design refined by Winchester's team was capable of firing more powerful cartridges than any Winchester repeater before making it an excellent big game rifle, but production was still very limited compared to Winchester's smaller rifles like the Model 1892 and 1894.
Very fine overall as professionally restored, retaining 99% plus of the blue and casehardened finish with limited handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
