Manufactured in 1903 with standard two-line address/patent marking, two-line nickel steel marking, and "30 W.C.F." on the special order, part octagon barrel. The three-line model/trademark marking is on the upper tang and serial number on the bottom of the receiver. Import marked on underside of barrel. The butt of the stock is marked "94" and "16794", with "16794" repeated inside the buttplate. It is fitted with a full set of Lyman sights including a beaded blade front, two-leaf folding rear, and tang mounted peep sight. It is mounted with a very finely figured, H-style checkered forearm and straight grip stock with a casehardened crescent buttplate. The included factory letter (copy) lists the rifle in .30 caliber with a half octagon barrel, half magazine, plain trigger, takedown, and a fancy checkered stock when received at the warehouse on 29 May 1903 and shipped the same day in order number 186978. Provenance: The Wayne Connor Collection
Very fine, retains 70% plus of the bright original high polish blue finish, 50% of the original nitre blue on the loading gate, and 90% of the vibrant refinished case colors with the balance having thinned to mostly a smooth grey patina and some scattered light scratches on the receiver. The wood is also very fine with some minor dings and scratches scattered throughout and otherwise mostly crisp checkering and retaining most of the varnish. Mechanically excellent. An attractive Winchester Model 1894 rifle that was clearly special ordered by someone with fantastic taste!
