German immigrant gunsmith John Sites Sr. of Virginia moved to Missouri in the mid-1830s. The rifle has blade and notch sighted, "J. SITES/BOONVILLE Mo" stamped on top of the breech section, no visible markings on the lock, adjustable double set triggers, a double spurred trigger guard, simple lock screw washer, nice toe plate, cheekpiece, and plain stock.
Very good with a mix of refinished blue, dark brown patina, and mild pitting on the lock and barrel; aged patina on the brass furniture, and mild overall wear. The stock is also very good and has some gaps around the inlets, a few thin cracks, and minor scratches and dings. The lock needs mechanical work.
