Description:

This carbine was likely manufactured in the first half of the 17th century and then decorated in the Victorian era. The smoothbore barrel is two-stage and has blade and notch sights and what appears to be an "H[key]B" maker's mark on the breech and two other markings on the left flat (one looks like an "M"). The lock has an exposed wheel and rounded plate. The furniture is iron. The stock has extensive staghorn/bone inlays with engraved floral, mythological, and hunting related designs, including a boar hunting scene on the right and a deer hunting scene on the left flat. Provenance: The Collection of Joe M. Wanenmacher Jr

Rating Definition:

Very good with silver-gray patina and faint pitting, a screw absent from the trigger guard tang, and minor overall wear. The stock is fine and has distinct details on the inlays, some subtle cracks and repairs, and general mild scratches and dings. Lock untested.
