The heavy octagon barrel has a blade front sight, a globe front sight, a notch rear sight, a second empty rear sight dovetail, "A.B. STEINER" marking, and long tang. The lock is marked "ROGERS BROTHERS & Co/52/MARKET ST/PHILADELPHIA" (c. 1833-1843) and has some simple engraving. It is equipped with double set triggers. The major components of the furniture are brass while the wedge escutcheons and cheek side inlays are German silver. The cheekpiece inlay is inscribed "Black Hawk," and the rear inlay is a beaver. The patchbox lid is engraved with a pig. The stock has a checkered wrist. Provenance: The Collection of Joe M. Wanenmacher Jr
Very good with mottled brown patina, some mild pitting, aged patina on the furniture, and moderate overall wear. The frizzen spring is replaced, and the pan is repaired. The refinished stock is also very good and has partially smoothed checkering, some cracks and repairs, general minor scratches and dings, and attractive grain and contrast. Mechanically fine.
