Measuring 15 1/2 inches long, with a 10 1/2 inch trefoil blade with a needle point and wire etched scrollwork. The hilt is carved bone with scroll and leaf motifs, and a cylindrical grip decorated with a crown over panel scenes of a royal/imperial eagle and a charging knight. The sheath is of similar construction, with raised scroll carving and the busts of four French kings; Francois II (reign 1559-1560), Charles IX (reign 1560-1574), Henri III (reign 1574-1589) and Henri IV(reign 1589-1610). Provenance: The Dr. Gerald Klaz Collection
Fine overall. The blade shows a mixed patina, with patches of oxidization, light pitting, and good detail in the etching. The furniture shows some minor age cracks and light chips and wear, but is generally solid with well detailed decoration.
