Description:

This is a beautifully embellished example of a Caucasian style qama dagger, also commonly referred to as "Cossack" daggers, due to the famous horsemen regularly carrying them. It measures 14 1/4 inches overall and a 9 3/4 inch spearpoint blade with a double fuller on the outside and a single on the inside, all of which run approximately 3/4 of the length of the blade. The outside of the blade is also stamped with "(*)" and four unrecognizable characters. The hilt appears to be brass and is extensively engraved, silver plated, and decorated with multicolored enamel in the floral patterns. The same floral patterns and multicolored enamel cover the entire outer surface of the included scabbard and the interior surface is silver plated with blued floral designs. Provenance: The Dr. Gerald Klaz Collection

Rating Definition:

Very fine, the blade mostly bright with a few scattered patches of surface oxidation, mainly near the tip, and retaining most of the attractively aged silver plating and bright enamel on both the hilt and scabbard.
