The accompanying factory letter confirms the 6 inch barrel in .41 caliber and nickel finish with the type of stocks not listed and the revolver was shipped on August 1, 1891 to J.C. Petmecky of Austin, Texas. This was a two gun shipment. An immigrant from Germany, J.C. Petmecky (1842-1929) was a gunsmith and gun dealer who had his shop on Congress Avenue. As reported in his obituary, demand for Petmecky's services was high and his customers included Governor Sam Houston and Texas Rangers. During the Civil War, he built guns for the Confederacy. Matching serial numbers on the frame, trigger guard, and back strap.
Excellent, retaining 90% plus untouched original nickel plating with front edge wear on the cylinder. The grips are very fine with light high edge wear and overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. A high condition Colt Model 1877 DA Revolver shipped to a noted Austin, Texas, gunsmith and dealer.
