The factory letter lists this revolver in .38 caliber with a 3 1/2 inch barrel, nickel finish, and rubber grips when shipped to J.P. Moores Sons in New York City on March 21, 1881. It has a rounded blade front sight, two-line barrel address, and etched "COLT D.A. 38" marking on the barrel which was not equipped with an ejector and has the longer cylinder pin, standard three-line patent marking on the frame, "38 CAL" on the left side of the trigger guard, matching serial numbers, and checkered hard rubber grips with the Rampant Colt at the top. Includes a double loop holster with floral tooling. Provenance: The Gary Burghoff Collection
Very fine with 85% of the original nickel plated finish, some flaking mainly around the breech, and general light scratches and dings. The grips are fine and have mild handling wear, attractive faded aged tones, and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
