Approximately 20,202 second model Maynard carbines were manufactured between 1863-1865. Some were issued to the 6th, 9th, and 11th Indiana Cavalry as well as the 10th and 11th East Tennessee Union Cavalry. Pinched blade front sight, three leaf rear sight, "J.M" inspection initials on the left barrel flat at the breech, and two boxed script inspection cartouches stamped on the left of the wrist.
Fine, retains 60% plus original blue finish with smooth brown patina on the balance, 40% original case colors, scattered light freckling and some patches of light pitting, and sharp markings and edges in the metal. Stock is very fine, with some scattered scratches and dents, some darkened areas of stain at the edges, and crisp cartouches. Mechanically excellent.
