Approximately 20,202 second model Maynard carbines were manufactured between 1863-1865. Some were issued to the 6th, 9th, and 11th Indiana Cavalry as well as the 10th and 11th East Tennessee Union Cavalry. Pinched blade front sight, three leaf rear sight, "S" single letter inspection initial on the left barrel flat at the breech, and two boxed script inspection cartouches stamped on the left of the wrist.
Very good, retains 40% of the faded original blue finish with extensive scattered moderate pin-prick pitting and brown patina on the balance, a mix of gray and brown patina on the frame, and clear markings and edges in the metal. Stock is fine with raised feathered grain, some scattered scratches and dings, a steak of yellow paint under the buttstock, and crisp cartouches. Mechanically excellent.
