Description:

William Parker was active from 1793 to 1841, and his shop was taken over by his former partner's son and then son-in-law and run as Parker, Field & Sons until 1877. Parker had a royal warrant and manufactured and sold guns and other items to England's police forces. The rifled Damascus barrel has a band of engraving at the muzzle, a dovetailed silver blade front sight, "W. PARKER, GUN MAKER TO HIS MAJESTY, HOLBORN, LONDON." inscribed on top, and dual engraved bands near the breech. The patent breech is gold banded, platinum lined, and has a gold "W. PARKER" hallmark. The upper tang has dual gold bands and a fixed notch sight and is engraved with scroll and martial patterns. The advanced lock is signed "W. PARKER" and has burst, floral, and scroll engraving and a hole in the plate and pan. Martial and floral pattern engraving is also found on the trigger guard and ramrod entry pipe. The saw-handle stock has a horn forend cap, silver wedge plates, a silver escutcheon on the left side, a gold "1" inlaid behind the upper tang, checkered wrist, floral engraved band around the butt, and an engraved key slot in the back of the wrist for fitting the included skeleton buttstock which has engraved iron hardware and a checkered bare butt. Provenance: The Collection of Joe M. Wanenmacher Jr

Rating Definition:

Very good overall with an even dark period refinished brown and visible twist patterns along the barrel, mostly dark brown patina on the other iron components, bright original gold bands, light oxidation, aged patina on the silver, loose band on the reoiled stock, mind dings and scratches, and crisp markings, engraving, and checkering. Mechanically fine.
